Under this Act, the Odisha State Agricultural Marketing Board was constituted in 1984 to act as the apex body of all the Regulated Market Committees (RMCs) established by the Government.
Necessity of a state level organization (State Agricultural Marketing Board) to supervise and provide guidance to Market Committees was realized with establishment of RMCs/ APMCs in the country
OAPM Act was accordingly modified to make the provisions for establishment of Odisha State Agricultural Marketing Board
The Board functions as an superintending and controlling body of the RMCs in promotion of organized markets, approval of budgets, execution of works, etc. All these call for continuous monitoring and identification of areas for improvement
The Board ensures all round development of Agricultural Marketing in a systematic manner for enhancing efficiency
The Board is an autonomous body corporate as per statute
